Most clearance companies will not put a price on their website. Ring for a quote, they say, and you spend twenty minutes describing a sofa to somebody who is going to give you a number anyway. We would rather just tell you.
So here is what it actually costs to have a single item taken away in Cornwall. These are our real prices, they include VAT, and they are the same ones on our single item removal booking page. Nothing here needs a visit or a quote. You book it and we come and get it.
Sofas and seating
- Armchair, including recliners: £28
- Two seater sofa: £54
- Three seater sofa: £65
- Reclining three seater: £72
- Four seater sofa: £72
- Corner sofa: £80
- Reclining corner sofa: £90
- Sofa bed with mattress: £88
- Footstool: £22
Recliners cost the same as the ordinary version in the smaller sizes and more in the bigger ones, and that is not arbitrary. A reclining mechanism is a steel frame that has to come apart or go out whole, and a reclining corner unit will not go round the turn of a Cornish staircase in one piece.
Beds and bedroom furniture
- Bed frame: £27
- Single divan base: £36
- Two door wardrobe: £35
- Three door wardrobe: £42
- Four door wardrobe: £53
- Bedside cabinet: £13
- Bedside cupboards: £7
Mattresses are priced separately and are dearer than people expect, because they cannot go in the general load and carry a per item disposal charge of their own. We have written about why that is if you want the detail.
Appliances
- Fridge or freezer: £50
- Under counter fridge: £43
- Washing machine: £20
- Tumble dryer: £21
- Dishwasher: £25
- Oven or cooker: £21
- Hob, extractor hood or microwave: £7 each
- Air conditioning unit: £43
- TV or monitor: £15
- Kettle or toaster: £2 each
The fridge is the one that surprises people. Fifty pounds for a fridge and twenty for a washing machine looks backwards until you know why. Fridges and freezers contain refrigerant gases and have to be degassed by a licensed facility before anything else happens to them. A washing machine is a drum, a motor and a lump of concrete, and it goes straight into the metal stream. The price is the disposal route, not the weight.
Everything electrical goes through the WEEE route rather than into a general load, which is a legal requirement rather than a preference.
Living and dining
- Dining table: £25
- Sideboard: £25
- Bookcase: £18
- Coffee table: £10
- Side table: £7
- Floor standing lamp: £4
Bags, boxes and garden waste
- Black bag of household waste: £6 a bag
- Glass bottles and jars, a box or bag: £5
- Ceramics and crockery, a box or bag: £5
- Flattened cardboard, a pile one person can carry: £10
- Garden waste, a builder's bulk bag of around a cubic metre: £25
Bagged waste is the one people ring about most, usually after a missed bin collection or when a clearance has left a few bags behind. We lift them out of the bin for you. That service is Cornwall only, and there is more on our bin bag collection page.
Glass and ceramics are priced apart from general waste for a reason worth knowing: separating them properly cuts the disposal bill on a whole job. We saw exactly that on a clearance in St Austell.
Flooring
- Carpet, up to 10 square metres: £35. Up to 20: £70. Up to 40: £105
- Vinyl or lino, up to 10 square metres: £49. Up to 20: £98
- Laminate, up to 10 square metres: £70
Flooring is priced by area because that is what determines the work. Laminate costs more than carpet over the same floor because it has to be lifted board by board, and vinyl that has been glued down is worse again.
Other things worth knowing
- Exercise bike: £18. Treadmill: £35. January is busy for both.
- Bathroom sink: £7. Toilet: £10. Bathtub: £42. Steel radiator: £15.
- Large printer or photocopier: £19. Desk printer: £5.

When single item pricing is the wrong answer
We should be straight about this, because adding up the list above is how people end up overpaying us.
If you are getting rid of a sofa and an armchair, book them individually. If you are emptying a whole room, or a garage, or a house, stop adding items up and ring us. A full clearance is priced on van loads and disposal cost, not on an itemised list, and it will almost always come out lower than the sum of the parts. On top of that, anything of value that comes out goes through our own auctions and resale channels and comes off your bill.
The other honest answer is that for one item, a trip to a household waste site yourself may well be cheaper, assuming you have something to move it in and somebody to help you carry it. For a sofa down a flight of stairs in a terrace in Falmouth, usually not.
Booking
We cover Cornwall and into Devon, from Penzance and Hayle through Truro, Camborne, Newquay and Bodmin. Prices above include VAT and are current as at the date on this post. Every collection comes with a waste transfer note, and around two thirds of what we take away stays out of landfill.
Book online, or call 07843 930927 or email info@lanorahouse.com and we will sort it out over the phone.
